WIND energy

wind turbines are the solution to generate clean energy

Wind power plants

Wind turbines can be operated as small community facilities or as large wind farms. The electricity produced by wind energy is a very clean alternative to power generation from fossil fuels. Wind turbines protect the climate in the long term.

Even a plant with a capacity of about 1.5 MW avoids about 64,000 tons of CO2e-emissions over a service life of 20 years. In order to produce 1.5 MW in conventional power plants, about 80,000 tons of brown coal have to be burned.

significant emission reduction

If electricity is generated in the wind turbine ("emission situation with project"), the emission factor of the electricity mix decreases, since greenhouse gas emissions do not occur when regenerative energies such as wind energy, hydropower or sunlight are used.

Depending on the amount of electricity that the wind turbine can produce, significant emission reductions are achieved compared to the emission situation without the project. The emissions saved by the project can then be sold as reduction certificates for compensation purposes.

Alternative to Fossil Energy

In a carbon offset project for the construction of a wind farm, to determine the reduction quantities, it is determined how the corresponding amount of electricity would normally be generated ("baseline emission situation without a project").

For this purpose, an emission factor is calculated from the composition of the existing power plants and the newly built power generation plants in recent years. This indicates the greenhouse gas emissions per kilowatt hour of electricity. As electricity generation from coal and other fossil fuels dominates in most countries, a relatively high emission factor will result.

*renewable energy

Hydropower, wind energy, solar energy and biomass projects are projects in the field of renewable energies.

These projects enable the shift from fossil fuels to renewable energy sources and are therefore very significant. A change is absolutely necessary to reduce CO- emissions in the long term.

Renewable energy projects are mostly built in sparsely populated areas and thus have positive effects on rural electricity supply and local employment.

Wind energy is climate-friendly and creates local added value. In addition, it is a mature and therefore relatively inexpensive technology, which helps to meet the demand for electricity, especially in the winter half-year. Disadvantages are the change in the landscape and the fluctuating offer.
It needs a mix of wind energy and complementary energy carriers such as sun and hydropower.
